Rich Dover Perspective on Be in Health
The following is my perspective on the Be in Health ministry in Thomaston, GA, specifically regarding the For My Life Retreat and the Walk Out Workshop. It is based upon my two week experience.
Venue/Atmosphere
The venue and atmosphere was conducive for a safe place to address spiritual issues, and comfortable for long days of teaching. They provided many breaks and enough time to not be rushed for lunch.
The guidelines they put in place created a safe place for individuals to share personal issues and limited the potential of participants trying to be the teachers, counselors, etc.
For those coming from a background of legalism, condemnation, being guilt driven, I am sure they felt that Be in Health was a safe haven.
Theologically
Overall I believe what was taught was biblically sound. They use multitudes of Scripture to back up what they are teaching. Much of what they taught I have learned in the past but they certainly presented new information. When they did I checked it out with Scripture. This in no way means I agree with every single thing they teach. (I will post on this in a later article.) But nothing they taught was in conflict in regard to the foundational truths of Christianity.
Teachings
The various topics they covered were very insightful, even topics I already understood, or have taught in the past. This was important to me-I came to learn more and to become more transformed. This certainly occurred. There were several teachings I heard that were brand new to me. So, I was certainly skeptical or suspicious at first. Most of my concerns were addressed in the teachings or after I would speak to one of the teachers. I should mention I am at peace when I do not agree with some things that are taught, this is the case in regard to any ministry or church. I am totally okay if some do not agree with everything I teach.
Concerns/’Questionable’ Positions
There are a few concerns I have after being at Be in Health. I should mention I did talk to presenters in regard to most of my concerns or my questioning of certain stances regarding some of the mindsets/beliefs on some topics. After speaking with them I had more clarity of where they were coming from in some of their teaching. Some of it is just a matter of them ‘swinging the pendulum’ to counter some false teaching or false mindsets that are in many American churches. I should mention that they make it clear that you do not have to agree with everything they teach, just put it on the shelf. (I will address my concerns in a future article.)
Insights/Revelations
I gained very helpful insights regarding Scripture and a few very powerful revelations on my personal life. Insights and revelations I wish I had decades ago. The thought in my mind over and over again is that “If I had learned these concepts years ago, and applied them, there would have been much less pain and suffering for myself and others, and I would have been a much better example of being a follower of Christ.” The information taught is certainly helpful for new Christians.
Sanctification
Overall I would say Be in Health is much more than about being healed spiritually, emotionally, mentally, relationally, and physically. It is about walking in sanctification. If you are living out a life of sanctification you will be a much healthier person.
Summary
I believe Be in Health overall is a great ministry and beneficial to anyone who wants to experience whole person healing in their life. I believe every single Christian needs to learn the principles that are taught-the body of Christ would be much healthier and more effective in reaching the lost. In future articles Carmi and I will share how the ministry has been beneficial to us, and how it can be beneficial to others.
