Not Judging Hearts and Motives

  • By PreacherRichD

creating futures not judging motives

One of the big problems with many people, especially in our toxic social media addictive culture, is the judging of the heart and motives of others. In other words, claiming to know what is inside the heart of a person or what are their motives.

Based upon what you read in social media, based upon what you hear from talking heads, liberal or conservative, based upon what you hear in the lunch room, it sounds like the world is made up of psychics. People who can read people’s minds and even know what is in their heart.

Questions
Do you like others to assume what you think or believe?
Do you like others to put in a category? If you are, …, then you must? If you identify as…you must believe….
Do you like others to judge your motives?
Do you like others to judge your heart?
Do you like others to make insinuations, accusations when they do not know you personally?

Do Not
Do not do unto others what you would not want done to you. I will say it again, Do not do unto others what you would not want done to you. It is the reverse of Matthew 7:12
Matthew 7:12
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

More Questions
What if we ask questions instead of assuming?
What would happen if we treated people how we want to be treated?
What would happen if we agreed to disagree agreeably?

Judging Actions
We are not to judge a person’s heart and motives, but we can certainly judge a person’s actions but even then we need to be careful.
John 7:24
Do not judge by appearance [superficially and arrogantly], but judge fairly and righteously.”

Stereotyping people becomes unrighteous judgment.

Be slow to judge, be merciful, compassionate, gracious, and pray for those who it would be easy to judge. Pray for them and pray for God to keep your heart pure. At the end of the day you are not responsible for those who judge hearts and motives, but your are responsible if that is something you do. Ask God to show you if that is what you do and if so, repent, and ask Him to show you when that is what you are doing.
