Fear-Unhealthy Fear

Fear can be helpful to keep us safe. Fear in the sense of holy fear, acknowledging who God is and having reverence for Him is a good thing. What is not good is unhealthy fear.
Definition of Fear
An unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger; To be afraid of; To be filled with concern or regret over an unwanted situation; To be apprehensive.
Synonyms: Dread, fright, alarm, panic, terror, trepidation, anxiety.
Unhealthy Fear
Unhealthy fear refers to fears that are disproportionate to the actual threat or danger present. Unlike healthy fear, which serves as a protective mechanism, unhealthy fear can lead to anxiety, panic, and avoidance behaviors. It often manifests in the form of phobias or irrational fears that do not align with reality, such as fear of harmless objects or situations.
Fear Acronym
False Evidence Appearing Real
F.E.A.R. occurs when the mind interprets thoughts, assumptions, or worst-case scenarios as actual threats, even though they are not happening in reality. This can include fears of failure, rejection, or future events that may never occur. The brain responds as if these imagined threats are real, producing anxiety, stress, and emotional paralysis. Essentially, the mind constructs a narrative that feels indisputable, even though it is based on false or incomplete evidence
Physical Symptoms of Fear and Anxiety
Weakened immune system, Cardiovascular strain, Digestive Issues, Metabolic effects-cortisol, Accelerated Aging
Psychological Symptoms
Unhealthy fears can lead to a cycle of anxiety and panic, where the individual feels trapped in their fear response without the ability to rationally assess the situation. This can result in physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, and even panic attacks. Over time, these fears can escalate, leading to more severe mental health issues if left untreated. I would add can lead severe to spiritual dysfunction.
Poor Choices Made When Unhealthy Fear is Involved
PreacherRichD and Bobby share examples and personal stories about making poor choices based upon fear.
Bobby becomes very vulnerable in this podcast about his poor choices and also shares the victories in his life over fear.
Trusting God
The answer to overcoming unhealthy fear is to trust in God, that God is on your side.
Bobby shared a significant statement he heart someone share. Ask yourself “In what area of my life am I being an agnostic”. In other words in what area of my life I am not believing and trusting that God is a relational/personal God that loves me and wants what is best for me.? In what area of my life am I operating out of fear?
