Thoughts on ‘Relentless’ by John Bevere

My wife Carmi and I have been listening to the audiobook version of Relentless by John Bevere. . As we were listening to it some people’s names came to my mind. Then I thought, what Christian is there on earth that does not at some point need to be encouraged to be relentless.
I remember a time when I walked into a room with several other pastors and one of them shouted out, “here is our bulldog pastor”. I said facetiously, “Well thanks a lot for the title.” He responded back, “It is a compliment, not a dig. I mean it in a positive way. You are one who is determined and steadfast no matter the odds.” I said “Yeah but do not turn me loss in a china cabinet.’ We both laughed.
So I have been called a bulldog, a pesky mosquito, and who knows what. But the truth be told I have wanted to give up/quit in doing many different things over the years. That pastor knew I was facing various things just like any other pastor and his words were an encouraging reminder to be relentless and steadfast.
Relentless
Here is the definition that Bevere gives to the word Relentless:
What does it mean to be relentless? The term describes an attitude or posture that is resolute, persistent, and unyielding. Simply put, it does not relent. To relent is to become more lenient, to slacken, or even concede. Some of the synonyms that help define relentless are adamant, rigorous, severe, uncompromising, unstoppable, tenacious, and even dogged. Other descriptions include constant, gritty, single-minded, steadfast, persistent, and stringent. Relentless can apply to an evil, unyielding force, but for our discussion we’re going to consider it in a positive, godly sense. Therefore, we’ll apply the term to one who is valiant, courageous, and determined to complete the task at hand.
Contingent On You Being a Relentless Believer
I love it when Bevere says, it takes a relentless believer to see the impossible to become possible. Listen, by God’s grace, you can be a relentless follower of Christ who becomes a great vessel of honor for God’s kingdom.
Our Heavenly Father can use you to be a powerful testimony of the goodness of God. You can live out being more than a conqueror, Romans 8, 37. You can be a shining star in a dark world, Philippians 2, 15.
You can consistently reflect the fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5, 22-23. You can be consistently used in the gifts of the Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12, 8-10. A relentless Christ follower is a role changer for the kingdom of God.
Be relentless to fight the good fight of faith. I encourage every single Christian listening to this podcast to read or listen to Relentless by John Bevere:
