Serving Others-Correct Heart

Bobby the Seeker and I continued on the topic of Serving Others, but before we got started on the topic, I threw Bobby a curve ball, I asked him what drives Bobby. Bobby’s response shows his heart. He was stuttering some in giving an answer. He explained why. He believed the answer should be living for God but he wanted to give a sincere answer, not a flippant answer. It is his heart to live for God, but he falls short. He was looking at he was not consistent on praying and seeking God’s will. I reminded him it is not always that we are not being faithful. There also is the fact that as God mold and shapes us we become more lined up with His will and living for Him, doing His will becomes second nature to us. Some things we do not need to pray about, we just know.
Serving Others Out of compassion and Love
Bobby gave an example of how he related to someone at work. Instead of getting frustration with someone he suddenly had compassion for them. He felt the desire to help them out.
Serving Others When Not Fun
I gave an example of helping someone out when in the natural realm I did not want to do what it would take to help out/minister to someone. The love for others will drive us to do things for others that we would not normally want to do.
Benefit of Serving-Feeling Good
When you are serving others, the others are not the only ones being benefited. It feels good to be able to serve others, to be a vessel for God.
Freedom From Obeying God
Being obedient to the tugging of God to help someone benefits the person and benefits us. It brings dying to self. It brings freedom from self.
Serving Others Blesses God
There comes a place of asking yourself, why would I not serve others and the fact that us serving others blesses God.
Matthew 25:35-40
35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
Others Will Know If We Have the Right Heart
If our heart is not correct when serving others there will be times that they will certainly see it is not right. It certainly does not feel right to us.
The Outcome Does Not Matter
Our job is just to be there serving others. The outcome is out of our hands. Our job is to show the love of Christ.
The Greatest Benefit is Knowing that God has Changed You
The greatest benefit of serving others is knowing that it is not you, it is God in you.
Many Times No Immediate Benefit
There are multitudes of times you do not see any benefit, reward, for serving others. If you have the correct heart it will not matter if you ever see any benefit in serving others. What matters is you are more like Jesus.
