Missing the Mark

I am doing a series of podcasts regarding the Pastor Tony Spell and Luke Sherwin incident that is throughout the news. I will be posting links to my previous podcasts and related blog articles at the end of each article.
High Calling of Jesus
To prevent individuals from thinking that because I share my testimonies of living for Christ, I am saying I always get things right, I am going to share about missing the mark, falling short of the High Calling of Christ Jesus.
We are told in Philippians 3:14 to press toward the goal for the prize of His calling. The goal of hearing “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)
The high calling of Jesus is to rise above earthly living, to live differently than the world, to acknowledge that God is holy and He calls us to holiness. He call us live by the Spirit, not the flesh.
The high calling of God requires us to be intentional, focused, and willing to sacrifice for His Kingdom.
No Excuses
A Christian who understands the concept of the high calling of Christ does not deny that they have missed the mark. They do not excuse or justify they miss the mark. They do not put the blame on another human being. They confess they have missed the mark, repent of missing the mark, and make amends.
Her is a truth, we all fall short at times at either confesses, repenting, making amends.
The Thorn in the Flesh
One of the biggest cop outs within Christianity is the ‘thorn in the flesh’ excuse. “I could not help it because the thorn in my flesh is….” “We all have a thorn in our flesh”. That is not based upon a Bible verse, it is an assumption. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:7 there was a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment him to keep him from exalting himself. It does not say it was a sin given to him. God certainly does not give sin. Nothing in the passage suggests that it was a sin in Paul’s life.
One could stretch the verse to say God allows something to be in our life to humble us. One could say maybe there is something in our life we have not overcome, we struggle with, but it certainly is not some sin that God winks at or has put in our life. We need to not put the blame God for something we have not overcome. Here is a reality, for most of us we have plenty of issues in our life that God does not have to use some specific sin in our life to humble us. So, let’s stay away from the “I cannot help it because it is the thorn in my flesh”.
