Blessed Are the Merciful-Part Two

In Part One Co-Host Bobby and I spoke on the principle that we at times need mercy so we should extend mercy to others. The promise is if we extend mercy we will receive mercy. In this podcast Bobby and I focused on the definitions of mercy and how to apply mercy in a practical sense and that God calls us to show mercy to others.

Matthew 5:7
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Definition of mercy
Greek word Eleos. Signifies compassion, kindness, a deep concern for the suffering of others. To have pity on. An active response to alleviate suffering.

To be merciful is to show forgiveness and compassion to those in need.

Mercy has no conditions attached.

God’s mercy is the withholding of a just punishment; it is His compassion on the miserable.

Showing Others Mercy
If we fully understand the concept of mercy, we understand that mercy is based upon having compassion, kindness, even going as far as finding ways to alleviate the suffering of another person, rather they deserve it or not. Sadly in today’s culture even Christians many times do not show mercy to others, especially if they disagree with the beliefs, actions, behavior of someone. In fact, they can be mean-spirited. However, God calls us to walk in mercy. It is not an option.

Being a Christian that is a keyboard warrior hating on lost individuals is certainly not being a person manifesting mercy or the character of Christ.
