The Beatitudes-Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.”
Matthew 5:6
What is righteousness: Justice, justness, virtue, purity, godly moral character, holiness, in right agreement with God’s standards, proper standing with God, A way of life that is approved of God.
Hunger and Thirst
When someone is hungry and thirsty, has gone without food for a long time, they can come to the point they will do anything to get food. Starving for food certainly does not bring satisfaction.
It seems contradictory to hunger and thirst for righteousness and you will be satisfied. But it needs to be understood that the passage is saying who SEEK passionately for righteousness will be filled. Those who seek holiness, those who desire to be in right relationship with God, those who want to live a life that pleases God will be filled.
Relationship with God/Jesus
Desiring righteousness does not make us righteous. We are unable to walk in righteousness with a relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior. Through Christ we are made righteousness and we will have a desire to walk in holiness.
When we accept Christ, desire to walk in righteousness, start living a life of righteousness we will become satisfied, filled.
