The Beatitudes-Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

My co-host, whom I call Bobby the Seeker, and I discussed being Poor in Spirit.
Matthew 5:3 ESV
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3 The Message Paraphrase
“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.”
The Beatitudes are not to be taken literally or read as black and white. In other words they are not some formula. They are to be seen as principles to live by and to apply to your life. The Beatitudes when read with the natatural mind do not make sense. They seem contradictory. They do not seem inviting. Who wants to be poor in spirit and how in the world can that be a blessing. But when read with spiritual understanding they make total sense and are seen, and experienced, as amazing principles to live by.
To be poor in spirit is to admit that we are not enough and were never meant to be enough. It is like coming to Jesus with open hands and honest heart. It is to admit you are spiritually bankrupt. Being poor in spirit has nothing to do with finances and not talking about your possessions.
An example of being poor in spirit is to know God has gifted you in an area of ministry, but knowing if you are not poor in spirit, you may be gifted but there will not be an anointing with your gifting. You become self-reliant.
Not being poor in spirit can get you into trouble. You can become prideful, let the flesh rule in your life and lead to negative consequences, not being able to experience heaven on earth or the eternal kingdom.
When we truly recognize our sinfulness, that we have nothing to offer God, that we are a spiritual basket case we understand we need a Savior. We can then ask Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of our life, and experience the blessing of the Kingdom of Heaven, and God’s hand on our life here on earth.
Bobby spoke about all the benefits that have come into his life by embracing being poor in spirit and trusting in Jesus Christ.
The greatest blessings on earth is to be transformed and be able to help others on the journey of being poor in spirit, calling out to God, and God transforming their life.
